WHAT ISSISTEMA URUBU (VULTURE SYSTEM)?

Sistema Urubu is a kit of technological tools which allows any person to participate in biodiversity conservation and which objective is to reduce the environmental impacts of roads and railways. Sistema Urubu was developed by Brazilian Center for Road Ecology Research in Federal University of Lavras.

WHAT ISHAPPENING?

Due to millions of vehicles on roads every day, we need to be extremely careful when crossing them. And when who wants to cross the road is not a person, but an animal that doesn`t know how to calculate the time that is going to take? The result is the death of 475 million wild animals roadkilled per year, or 15 animals per second. Did you blink? We have lost 15 animals. And in your country, how many animals are roadkill every day?

WHY DOES ITMATTER?

The main objective of Sistema Urubu is to contribute to government and highway concessionaires in identifying roadkill hotspots and mapping the most affected species in each area. With this information, it is possible to plan and develop effective policies aiming to control and to reduce roadkill rates, ensuring the conservation of our biodiversity.

HOW CAN YOUHELP?

If more people use the Sistema Urubu better information will be on which species are most affected, and where they are roadkilled. Download the application, make your registration and send us as many pictures of wild animals as possible. You can also collaborate by sharing the Sistema Urubu with friends and accompanying us on social networks.
